The Sunset Bar Food Truck (Sofitel, Manila)

I know that It has been a very challenging time for all of us and I know how difficult it for everyone to cope up with the stresses. We have been in the community quarantine for almost a year and being stuck at home for most of us really pose a challenge for our well-being in general. I know most of you have been itching to go out to take a breather and have a break but is kind of hesitant because obviously there is still an ongoing pandemic. I have also been very careful about this that's why I don’t just go out and dine anywhere. Luckily, Sofitel Manila is again offering their Sunset Bar's foodtruck!

Picnic Tables + Food Trucks + Sunset = Perfection

The Sunset Bar's food truck is open for weekend dinner, that’s Friday Saturday and Sunday and costs 2800 PHP ++.  This is available in an Al Fresco dining set up along the beautiful Manila Bay. Its starts at 6pm but you can come in early if you want to witness the magnificent Manila Bay sunset before enjoying their fabulous food truck offerings that includes tacos, carnitas, sandwiches, and different grilled specialties. Free-flowing local beer, iced tea, soda, and wine is also included in the spread.

They would require for you to make a reservation through their online reservation system. I went to their facebook page, looked for the link and filled out a form indicating the details of our reservation. They will confirm your reservation through your email and would ask you to make a down payment to be paid within 48 hours of reservation. Here are some things to remember:

In compliance with the Department of Health , We were also asked to fill out a health declaration form that can be done on the same day of visit which was also presented at the hotel lobby before we were escorted to the Sunset Bar.

We were welcome by their courteous staff and was given a table in the food truck area.  The picnic table set up is wonderful! The ambiance is fantastic and festive. We then started our night by hanging out first at the bayside while we watch the sun set on that beautiful afternoon. It was warm as usual but the beautiful breeze made it refreshing and relaxing. Going back to our table, we were then assisted by our designated server Joyce and told us that we can either scan the QR code on our table to see the menu or go to the food trucks to place our orders.

There's definitely a lot to choose from! They have a taco truck which serves different types of tacos, burritos and nachos. I totally loved the Taco Al Pastor and the Nachos.

Nachos and Wine!

Taco Al Pastor (Pullled pork with delicious dressing in soft taco)

They also have the sandwich truck that serves great sandwiches like Roast Beef Sandwich, Smoked Adobo Brisket, and Shrimp Roll Brioche. I love all of the sandwiches since you can tell that its made with fine ingredients. I absolutely loved the bread they used for all the sandwiches! I particularly enjoyed the Shrimp Roll Brioche and the Roast Beef Sandwich. The brioche bread is superb and the roast beef is seasoned perfectly. The only downside I see with the sandwich serving is the weird use of puff crackers as sides. It would have been better if french fries or potato wedges were served instead. The sauce that came with the sandwiches is quite odd too. I love it on the Shrimp Roll Brioche but it didn’t really work for both the Roast Beef and the Smoked Adobo Brisket sandwich.

Shrimp Roll Brioche was an instant favorite of mine because of the delicious brioche bread and the delectable shrimp filling. Worked really well with the sauce that came with it.

Sandwich Party!

The BBQ and the carving station is another great feature of the sunset bar dinner, they serve different kinds of grilled meats  like pork skewers and seafood skewers. They also have roast beef, bellychon, hungarian sausages, jerk chicken, and grilled salmon. Sides like pesto pasta salad, mixed vegetables, and baby potatoes are also available. We got some grilled salmon, bellychon, and hungarian sausage with sides and its absolutely delicious! The bellychon's skin is crispy and the meat is tender, but a little bit salty for my taste. The pesto pasta salad is also delicious. We also tried their pork and seafood skewers and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned well.

More Skewers! Yay!

Stuff from the Carving and bbq station. Grilled Salmon, Grilled Hungarian Sausage, Bellychon, and superb sides of Pesto Pasta Salad, Baby Potatoes, and Grilled Veggies

Good Old Sisig. Ok, but not the best that I have tasted.

They have a wide array of drinks to choose from. Local beers like San Mig Light, Super Dry and Pale Pilsen are available, house red and white wine are also being offered, as well as different cocktails like Margarita, Screwdriver, Tequila Sunrise, and Cuba Libre.

Our server, Joyce is absolutely attentive and went above and beyond to make sure that our needs are met during the whole time. There were quite a few guests during our visit and so the serving time is quite slow, which is I think annother downside. It usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes before the order arrives on our table so I suggest you already request for multiple food items in one order.

There were still a lof of food items that we were not able to try because we were stuffed by the ones we have ordered. I remember wanting to get the Korean Chicken and Waffles, the Gyudon and Chicken Katsu Curry, other meats from the grilled station and more drinks. My mouth wants it but my tummy says stop!

We ended our meal with the desserts theyre offering such as the Churros con Chocolate and different flavors of Ice Cream.

The overall ambiance of the place is delightful! The fresh and cool sea breeze and the wonderful view of the Manila bay in itself is a treat when you visit the Sunset Bar of the Sofitel. The food truck set up with the al fresco dining add a unique flair and I was really happy to be out for once after being stuck at home for many months. I felt safe and relaxed the whole time we were there. The food in general is fantastic. The taste is splendid as Sofitel is guaranteed to whip up great tasting food. The breads used in the sandwiches are heavenly mainly because Sofitel's boulangerie is one of the best in the metro. Overall I'd give the Sunset Bar Food Truck 4/5!
